The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has appointed General Management Consultants (GMCs) to oversee the operations and maintenance of 2,653 km of highway assets under the National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT).

As part of the first phase, consultants will monitor around 908 km of National Highways through regular inspections and technology-driven asset assessments. Their responsibilities include identifying maintenance needs, safety improvements, defect rectification, and capacity enhancement measures to ensure better road quality and user experience.

The move is expected to improve long-term asset performance while strengthening the efficiency of highway operations across the NHIT portfolio.
