Railways, highways and power infrastructure could benefit from stronger domestic capabilities in the specialised machines used to excavate tunnels, says Ashwini Vaishnaw.
India is looking to strengthen its indigenous capabilities in Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) technology, a critical area of engineering for the country’s expanding infrastructure network.
Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of these machines in developing tunnels for railway, highway and power infrastructure projects. TBMs enable large-scale underground excavation, helping create passageways through challenging geological conditions while supporting complex infrastructure development.
