The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has successfully installed the main trusses of a Segment Launcher for the 13.9 km Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension, marking a significant step forward in the project's construction.

The operation involved placing two steel trusses, each 59 metres long and weighing 160 tonnes, during a planned overnight traffic block on the Eastern Express Highway. The lifting and installation were completed in about an hour, supported by detailed planning, stringent safety measures, and coordination with the Mumbai Traffic Police.

With the Segment Launcher now in place, the project enters its next phase, where construction teams will install 1,632 precast concrete segments, each weighing nearly 90 tonnes, to build the elevated viaduct.
