India has added a new milestone to its infrastructure and materials innovation story with a 1.85-kilometre road in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, built using processed steel slag.

The project has earned a Guinness World Record for the longest steel slag road, highlighting the potential of converting an industrial by-product into a construction material for road infrastructure.

Beyond the record, the project points toward a broader opportunity for India: using industrial waste streams as engineered alternatives in infrastructure development, while reducing dependence on conventional natural aggregates.

For the construction and steel industries, the development also demonstrates how material science, processing technology and infrastructure engineering can come together to create more resource-efficient solutions.
